That is what the new ebook subscription platform, Nubico -'in the cloud', in Esperanto-, launched by Telefónica and Planeta-Círculo de Lectores, a publishing house in which the giant Bertelsmann owns 50%, has cost. Since its launch on September 26, citizens have been able to see huge billboards advertising the platform in subways and bus stops.
Not all new titles are included in the Nubico flat rate. Some titles, in order to add them to your library, also cost 2.99 euros. In this list we have been able to find Ha vuelto, by Timur Vernes or Estoy mucho mejor, by David Foenkinos. And there are not too many recently published ebooks either. The offer does not seem to be a bit scarce when 24symbols already has 15,000 titles, five times more.
And how long does the ebook last on your device? As long as you pay the monthly fee, all well and good. Once you don't, it will disappear, as happens in all cloud platforms, since at the end of the day what the user pays for is access to the book, not the content in question. As advertised on the platform, ebooks can be read offline, so you do not need a continuous Internet connection. The time for 'disconnected' reading is 30 days "although once you reconnect, another 30 days are granted", assures Fernández.
