the emerald isle – ireland 2019 l pasajeando ando

Like thousands of readers I had the good fortune to travel the world through his books. We owe him many hours of sailing in the Indian Ocean, in the Pacific, in the Arctic. Thanks to him we were able to follow in the footsteps of Homer in the Greek islands, go up the Yukon River in the footsteps of Jack London and follow the course of other murkier rivers such as the Congo in Heart of Darkness. We also discovered the pink and yellow swamps of the East African savannah. In my case, all these trips almost always took place in the wee hours of the morning, lying on the sofa at home, with the floor lamp on.
Of course in her book there is much more than literature, there are stories of the IRA, the riots of the 70’s, changing skies, narrow roads and old movies. Inishfree, the town in The Quiet Man, is actually called Cong and is just a few miles from Wesport. Javier was one of those who thought that when traveling you have to leave room for improvisation. So we arranged to visit him the next day. Like many men of his generation, he was madly in love with Maureen O’Hara, just like Sean Thorton, the protagonist of John Ford’s film. Deep down he had a lot of the old cowboy in him. He was «ugly, strong and formal».

divine lola: lola montes, the impostor (8/9)

Javier Reverte describes a trip he made in 2004, a long journey through different parts of the green island following in the footsteps of Ireland’s most prolific writers. The book is a sort of logbook that describes each of the stops the author makes, but it is constantly peppered with songs, verses, anecdotes and historical information. It is easy to enjoy. Some parts are really interesting, and surprisingly didactic, but for me the chronology that Javier Reverte describes a trip he made to the United States is a very interesting one, and I found it very interesting, but for me the chronology is very interesting.

It is easy to enjoy. Some parts are really interesting, and surprisingly didactic, but for me the chronology that marks the journey means that much of the historical linearity is lost. The story manages to convey the soul of the Irish and their good vibes, while reaching a not inconsiderable level of culture.Recommended to feel like traveling there.
